Mountains home

Way too much geeky fun

I've spent the last couple of days playing with Google Maps and embedding them into my own web pages. You can see the results on the right side of this page in the "WHERE'S BRUCE" section. It's pretty cool stuff.

This is a continuation of some hacking I've been doing since I got a Bluetooth GPS which can communicate with my cell phone. I've got the cell phone regularly grabbing its position from the GPS then sending that info to my home server via a UDP message. I've been playing with this stuff for several months, and now with these web pages it's all coming together.

I've still got a lot of enhancements I want to make to the system, but it's already pretty interesting. If anybody is interested in the technical details let me know and I'll post them somewhere on here.

For all you parents of teenagers out there: Wouldn't you love to know where your child (or at least his cell phone) has been? I think this could grow into an interesting application.
