Australia - South Australia - McLaren Vale - Fox Creek

A couple years ago some friends gave me a bottle of the Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz and I thought it was so excellent. So naturally, when I got to McLaren Vale I looked them up. This is a small winery with a very friendly woman running the tasting room and some neat barrel craft around the lawns. Fox Creek wines are distributed in the US.

2006 Verdelho
Hints of banana on the nose. Tropical tastes - guava and pineapple come to mind. Very easy to drink, great for hot weather. AU$16

2003 JSM Shiraz/Cabernet Franc
Very smooth, almost viscous. The darker colors of the Cab Franc come through clearly. A food wine, not necessarily great alone. AU$22

2004 Short Row Shiraz
Very inky color. Grape soda hints on the nose. Nice clean flavors, not too peppery. Would be easy drinking, a sure winner on a restaurant wine list. AU$28

2005 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Very dark color, almost opaque. Hints of tropical fruit on the nose. Big blackberry flavors. Serious tannin, this could age a while. A perfect wine for steak. AU$36
