This is a very small winery that specialized in cooler weather wines. Their Riesling and Merlot seem to have won a number of awards.
2006 Eden Valley Riesling
5-6-5
Very clear, pale. Pear notes on nose. Nice easy drinking, nothing complex. AU$12.50
2004 Juuso Merlot
5-6-5
Nice merlot nose with pencil lead highlights. Big dark cherry candy flavors. Easy smooth tannins. AU$15
2003 Pridmore Shiraz
6-7-7
Opaque purple. Cola notes on nose. Earty, dark cherry skin flavors. Layered flavors. Finishes with caramelized nut. A bargain. I bought a bottle of this to drink later and enjoyed it a lot. AU$20
2004 Pridmore Shiraz
6-6-7
Inky dark colored. Dark notes in the nose not found in the '03 - age or vintage? Chocolate flavors. Nice gentle oak tannins. AU$20
2003 Footstompers Shiraz
5-6-7
A bit opaque. Red cassis nose. Darker flavors than the Pridmore, tannins more assertive and earthy. Nice finish. AU$30
Hi, I loved Fernfield Wines. Such a small family operation that is doing all the work by themselves.
I think they have wines full of rich flavours, that you can only get from basket pressing, hand picking and the love, care and passion this family seem to have for their wine.
I also believe that the Winemaker (the mum) is the oldest female winemaking student.
I recommend this winery to those that want to taste the true flavours of real wine, not manufactured stuff
