Australia - Western Australia - Mount Baker - Plantagenet Wines

This is another winery whose wines I've served at home and always enjoyed. They are located about a 30 minute drive north of the coast. Omrah is their easy-drinking label

2006 Plantagenet Riesling
Pale straw colored. Nice nose, citrus with a hint of coconut macaroons. Crisp, nice acid. Clean lime and grapefruit flavors. Very assertive. Beautiful long finish. No shortage of acid from beginning to end, a year or two in the bottle might make this even better. AU$19

2006 Omrah Sauvignon Blanc
Very pale, almost clear. Big nose, lots of "cat pee & gooseberries." Big green apple flavors, some grapefruit. Finish is fairly long but becomes very herbaceous and grassy. AU$17.50

2005 Omrah Pinot Noir
Brick red. Earthy, cherry nose. Strawberry and cherry flavors. some vanilla on the finish. Oak is under everything. Finish is nice but short. AU$17.50

2003 Plantagenet Cabernet Sauvignon
Maroon-bricky colored. Big nose, lots of alcohol, some cooked plum aromas. Nice, very elegant taste. Some herbal flavors, but mostly big cassis flavors. Finish is short. AU$35

2004 Plantagenet Shiraz
Inky dark cherry skin colored. Hints of peppermint on the nose. Very raspberry and strawberry flavored - reminiscent of Grenache. Finish is nicely layered and complex. Tannins are very smooth, almost velvety. AU$40

NV Plantagenet Tawny
Seven years old. Reddish brown - root beer colored. Toasted coconut on the nose. Nice round mouth-feel. Yummy stuff. Very long finish. A bargain at AU$16.50 375ml.
